“Lullaby of the Plains” and more to come

Hello all,

I have been absent from the blog scene for a while!  Life got busy and updating you on my upcoming works have had to take a back seat.

I’m really excited to announce my newest composition for solo baritone and piano accompaniment, Lullaby of the Plains.  This piece already holds a special place in my heart, being dedicated to my deceased grandfather, Vic Van Camp, and because of my Kansas roots and heritage (despite being born in Tulsa, Oklahoma….)  You can find more information on this piece here: https://kolbyvancamp.com/music-catalog/lullaby-of-the-plains/

I am working on completing my collaboration with Annette Billings in the SATB divisi work, Look, My Love, To The Stars, and am working on a few new pieces, Color for SATB divisi, Do Not Fear for TTBB and piano accompaniment, and a possible song cycle about Kansas called, Songs of the Prairie for solo baritone and piano accompaniment.

Lastly, I’m excited to announce that after almost two years, the first movement of my first completed choral piece, Nocturne, will be premiered through a collaboration with Kansas State’s ACDA chapter, on Saturday, March 3, 2018 from 4-5:30 PM in Kirmser Hall on Kansas State’s campus.  I’d love to see any and all of you out for this momentous occasion!

I have some more things on the horizon I’ll be sure to keep you updated on!

  1. Kolby, as you know and have already alluded, my dad loved Kansas. He too wasn’t born in the state (born in Franklin Nebraska) when he moved to Kansas to attend KState he fell in love with Kansas. Your dedication of Lullaby of the Plains would mean a great deal to him. He was always proud of you, but he’d be even more pleased with the adult you’re becoming. Always strive for excellence and continue to follow your dreams. I’m proud of you! EMAW!!
